JH Football Completes Season
After two years of co-oping Junior High football with Wymore Southern, this year the D-O Griffin Junior High participated as their own team. Adding to this was the new experience of playing BOTH 8-man and 6-man football games during the course of the season. This year the team consisted of 13 players (seven 8th Graders and six 7th Graders). Five games were scheduled – two 8-man games against Falls City Sacred Heart and Freeman, and three 6-man games against Pawnee City, H-TR-S, and Dorchester. On the season the Griffins won 2 games (vs Pawnee City and H-TR-S) and lost 3 games (vs F.C.S.H., Freeman, and Dorchester). For the most part, all players were able to see the field on a consistent basis. A few key injuries did hamper the team as the season wore on. That happens in football, sometimes, so the team played with a “next-man-up” mentality. Coaches for the team this year were John Mohr and Brian Vitosh. Both coaches agreed that the players worked hard, were willing to learn, and improved their football knowledge. The hope is that the returning players for next year will dedicate themselves to getting stronger and faster by next season! The members of the JH FB team would like to thank the parents of the players who provided a meal for the entire team after road games. It was very much appreciated!
