MAP Reading Fluency Screener for K-3 Students-August 22nd
Welcome back to school. Back to school means fall testing. The first test we will administer on August 22nd is the NWEA MAP Reading Fluency screener for our K-3 students. This screener measures beginning foundational reading skills, like phonological awareness, phonics/word recognition, sentence reading fluency, comprehension, and oral reading. The benchmark test will be administered again in the Winter and Spring. The test is adaptive to each child. We will use these results to better understand your child’s individual needs and to help them grow as readers. It will show us what our learners can do and what skills to work on.
This information will also determine the IRIP, Individualized Reading Improvement Plans which was put into law in 2018 by the state of Nebraska. If your child is placed on a plan, you will be notified in writing within 15 days of the assessment. Following your notification, a plan will then be written by our student support team and shared with you. This plan will explain to you the interventions that will be used to help your child grow in the area of reading. I am happy to discuss the results further with you and answer any questions you might have. You can contact me at shennerb@dillerodell.org or on Seesaw and we can set up a time to visit.
Thanks for sharing your child with us here at Diller-Odell. We are looking forward to a great school year! - Mrs. Hennerberg
