STEM Club to Disney World

The Diller-Odell STEM Club traveled to Orlando Florida for 6 days to spend time at Disney World and Kennedy Space Center. When the group was formed in 2023 it was decided that they would go on a STEM trip and Disney World was decided upon. The students earned money through fundraising, running summer ball concession stands, selling drinks at the Diller picnic, and getting donations. On Sunday, May 19, 2024 17 students, 4 sponsors and family members left Omaha to head to Orlando Florida. It was an exciting and scary time for all as there were many who had never flown before. After a long day of travel we made it to Pop Century Resort.

Our first day in Florida was spent at Magic Kingdom. The students were tasked to complete a scavenger hunt as they traveled through the park. They were tasked to take pictures of characters, different attractions, and food. Our second day was spent at Hollywood Studios. We had the opportunity to take a STEM class through Disney. The group got to see a behind the scenes look at how some of the rides were created and how the science behind them works. Once the class was over we were able to ride the Tower of Terror ride, and also did another scavenger hunt. The third day was spent at Kennedy Space Center. We were able to see space shuttles, mission control rooms, and even the Apollo exhibit. It was a full day of STEM learning and was so much fun. Our last day was spent at Epcot. There the students were able to travel the world and see many sights. Again the students completed a scavenger hunt and were able to try soda from other countries.

On Friday, May 24th the Diller-Odell STEM Club left Florida to return home. This was an amazing experience for all that were involved. We would like to thank the administration and school board for allowing us to have this educational experience. Thank you to the parents of the students for entrusting us with your students on this adventure. Lastly, we would like to thank anyone who helped make this trip possible which includes donations, sponsors, and grant donors. We look forward to taking another trip in the coming years.
